5 Reasons You May Want to Avoid RV Consignment

5 Reasons You May Want to Avoid RV Consignment

If you are looking to buy or sell an RV, it can be tempting to use an RV consignment shop. These shops are seen by many as a convenient and easy way to sell your unwanted RV quickly. And while there may be some advantages to choosing a consignment shop, there are many more disadvantages to using this type of establishment. Here are the top five reasons why you should think twice before using an RV consignment shop.

Viewed by Non-Buyers

At a consignment lot, your RV is essentially open t the public. And in some instances, the people that are walking through your RV have no interest in actually buying. They may b=just be curious about what an RV looks like inside. Because they already know that they will not be purchasing your RV, they feel no responsibility to treat your RV with care. They could pull off handles, scuff up floors, or cause other damage to the interior and exterior. When you sell your RV to a dealership or an individual person, you know that they are serious about buying your RV and are more inclined to treat it with respect.

Less Money for the Sale

If you sell your RV at a consignment lot, you will be required to give at least 10% of the money you make to the consignment lot. This may not sound like much at first. However, once e you start talking about an RV that is worth thousands of dollars, the 10% can add up to a lot of money very quickly.

Not Secured

When you sell your RV from your home, you can keep constant surveillance over your RV, and you can also walk inside the RV along with the potential buyer and watch them walk through your RV. At a consignment lot, there are so many RVs on the lot at the same time, it is hard to keep surveillance in every vehicle. This means that someone could break into the lot at night and steal items out of your RV.

Delayed Response

Many consignment lots are not open seven days a week. This could mean that there is a chance that a potential customer is unable to view your RV. Also, if the lot is understaffed, there a potential buyer may try to call the consignment service and not get an answer and quickly move on to another RV listing.

Unrealistic Buyers

Sometimes, a consignment lot will advertise your RV on a national publication. This is great exposure, however, if someone in a different part of the country sees your listing, it will be up to you to figure out how to get the RV to them. Do you pay to have the RV shipped? If so, how will you negotiate to get the money in your account before the buyer has the RV in their possession? The entire ordeal can be unnecessarily confusing.
