Thor Motor Coach History
Damon built some of the finest Class A Motorhomes the industry offered. They focused on building quality Class A Gas models from entry level to luxury and Class A Diesel Pushers. Damon certainly lived up to its slogan, "Quality by Design". For years Damon focused on exclusively Daybreak, Challenger, Intruder, Ultrasport and Escaper.
In 2003 Don Pletcher the founder and owner of Damon Motor Coach accepted an offer from Thor Industries he couldn't refuse and sold his ownership of Damon. Thor Industries had a reputation of buying good quality RV manufacturers like Damon and Airstream and allowing them to run independently. These manufacturers utilized the benefits of Thor's strength such as its purchasing power and drawing on its industry experience and talent. In 2005 Bill Fenech was appointed Damon's Vice-President of Sales and he brought with him years of industry experience and product knowledge. Bill and his brother Ron co-founded Keystone RV, a very successful trailer manufacturer, which was also purchased by Thor Industries. Bill Fenech was responsible for the design and development of the Montana 5th Wheel which has arguably been one of the most successful 5th Wheel models in the industry. Within a year, Bill Fenech rose to the position of President of Damon Motor Coach. Under Bill's direction, Damon launched the Astoria and Tuscany Diesel Pushers; introduced the industry's first motorized toy hauler, the Outlaw; introduced the first front kitchen motorhome; introduced the industry's first fuel efficient diesel motorhome, the Avanti; and introduced the first crossover motorhome; the A.C.E.
In 2010 with the impact of the recession Thor Industries decided to merge the different organizations to control costs and improve their competitive advantage. As such, Damon Motor Coach and Four Winds International were merged to create Thor Motor Coach. Bill Fenech was instrumental in managing the transition and consolidating the motorized production of these two organizations into one.
All the way along, The Hitch House has grown with Damon and Thor Motor Coach. The Hitch House and the relationship with Thor Motor Coach formerly Damon goes back nearly 15 years. Together we have enjoyed many mutual successes. In 2007, Damon was the number one Class A motorhome sold in Canada and the Hitch House was recognized by Damon Motor Coach as Damon's number one Daybreak dealer in Canada. As new releases of products came The Hitch House supported Thor's products and we currently inventory the A.C.E., the Daybreak, the Challenger, the Astoria, the Tuscany, the Avanti and the Outlaw - the industry's most successful Class A Toy Hauler.
With the launch of the A.C.E. at the 2010 Louisville RV Show, RV Business awarded it "The Best in Show". The Hitch House has experienced tremendous sales volume with the A.C.E. and we have sold more A.C.E.'s than any other Canadian dealer to date. If you are looking for a quality Class A motorhome at a reasonable price I strongly recommend that you come to the Hitch House and tour our inventory of Thor Motor Coach products.
